Volunteering opportunities:
Greenhead Volunteers,
Fridays 1pm to 3pm
For those with a free Friday afternoon come along and carry out
conservation tasks within the park. Tasks vary week
to week and are easily varied to take into account your own health and volunteering experience.
Future work will include:
- Removing overhanging branches from paths to widen the
view as you walk along them.
- Removing birch trees from the raised bog to keep
the bog as a wet bog and not a damp woodland.
- Starting to build the Greenhead Earthship and practicing with the
building of a tyre wall nearby.
- Building a viewing platform over Perchy Pond Local Nature Reserve.
Greenhead Volunteer days are
always fun, rewarding and educational. It's not every week
you can say you lost your wellie in a bog!! For more information contact the Project Officers or complete our membership
form and tick the volunteer box.
Tuesday afternoon Mental Health Group Over the past
5 years our mental health group has expanded in size to an average of 10 volunteers per week. From 2005 they have
been working towards creating a demonstration wildlife garden. The area was once scrub, long grass and the project officers
decided to give a full time project to the Tuesday group. This garden is now spectacular. The diverse wildflowers
thoughout the summer is exceptional and visitors to the park now have somewhere off the beaten track to sit, relax and
enjoy the view. For more information, contact the
Project Officers

Training opportunities:
Every volunteer with us receives training in the tasks, skills and the reasons for the work we are doing. We are
currently looking into more structured and accredited training services that we can provide on site. Watch this space for
more details soon.
Help us to keep our park clean & safe:
Motor bikes on site - illegal, annoying and dangerous!
There has been a recent influx of quad, scramble and mni bikes
within the park. This activity is illegal. As Project Officers we try to speak to the bike users but sometimes this
is easier said than done. There is only one option in dealing with them if you see them on site, call the Wishaw
police on 01698 372 592.
We speak to a lot of visitors who have been frustated by the bikers but also
to the bikers themselves who are keen to use off road places like Greenhead. A better option for them is to join the North
Lanarkshire Quad and Scramble Bike Club who offer a free club with purpose built tracks, events, bike maintenance courses and rider
training. Visit their website for further information www.nlsqbc.com
Their website also includes a petition to get the Scottish Parliament to
recognise the need for bike scrambling sites. Please support their efforts.
Dog fouling - bag it and bin it!
We are increasingly concerned about the amount of dog poo on paths, at the
side of paths and in bags hanging from trees.
The Doug Fouling Scotland Act requires all dog owners to pick
up AND DISPOSE OF any faeces from their dog.
The fact that 'poo bags' are marked biodegradable doesn't exempt anyone from
not puting them in the bin. Please encourage everyone on site with a dog to use the
bins provided.
You can get FREE poo bags from the Site Officers, your local Council Office or library.
Help us keep Greenhead green and pleasant - not brown and boggin'!
