Welcome to the Greenhead Moss website.

Greenhead Moss Community Trust is a community led partnership that manages Greenhead Moss Community Nature Park in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, southern Scotland.

The Community Nature Park covers over 110 hectares and was once a landfill and opencast site with remnants of lowland raised bog, woodland and grassland habitats. After extensive reclamation activities, we now manage the site for biodiversity, access, health & education programmes on behalf of the local community.

Our work on site includes providing volunteering and training opportunities, environmental education programmes, regular health walks and events for all ages and abilities.

News update:

Register now for Earthship Volunteering
Come and join us for a different kind of volunteer day. We'll be starting our build soon and will need lots of help to fill the tyres that will make up our earthship's tyre wall. It's a great job for getting a sense of achievement and an easy skill to learn. In the future, you can be standing there admiring the finished builiding and knowing that you helped build it.
Volunteer days will be available for adults, families and groups giving everyone an opportunity to be part of something remarkable and special.
To register as a volunteer, fill in the free membership form, tick the earthship box and send it in to us. We'll add you to our mailing list and let you know our volunteer dates.
See our 'support us' page for the downloadable membership from.

New gates being tested for the park.
New gates for all entrances to the park are currently being tested in conjunction with the North Lanarkshire Disability Forum's Access Panel. They have been testing various designs around Motherwell and Wishaw to see which best suits their needs. Once designed, we will be installing the new gates in every entrance to the park. Funds for this have come from Scottish Natural Heritage.

New Management Plan for the Nature Park
We are currently writing a managment plan for the Nature Park. This will cover the next five years and include:
  • How we manage the habitats within the park
  • What regular maintenance will be done throughout the year
  • Access management - i.e. paths, gates and signage throughout the site
  • Interpretation - what and how we tell people about our park

The plan will include and annual work plan, budget requirements and specifiications for the work to be done. If you'd like to suggest some improvements to the park or how we promote it, please get in touch.

Young film-makers to make film about Earthship build.

Students from Coltness High School and some of our staff and volunteers will be trained by the Learning Centre in Bellshill in order to make a film about the building of the earthship.  Watch this space and if you're volunteering at the Earthship, make sure you look your best!
